What do the numbers 9-1-1 mean to you?
Psalms 91:1 NKJV
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
When we hear the numbers 911, many people will immediately think “Emergency”! Others
may think of their favorite tv show with the same name. Some may remember a tragic date when the twin towers fell. And others may think of a shiny sports car with a ‘turbo’ on the
end of these numbers. But what if these numbers can be reframed in our minds to be the
most beautiful promise from the Lord?
I follow Pastor Joseph Prince & when he talks of 9-1-1, he is always referring to Psalm 91:1
“He who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the
almighty”. Doesn’t that sound more of a place of safety than a place of emergency?
This past week, I have had the numbers 9-1-1 appear in different ways three separate times. When that happens, I always sit up & take note! My knee jerk reaction was “emergency”, but thankfully Joseph Prince’s voice rang in my memory reminding me of Ps 91:1. I received two confirmations that it was indeed this scripture that was being highlighted.
So, where is this “Secret Place” & who gets to dwell there? For a long time, I thought it was
somewhere we had to strive to get to (fasting & praying for days). Until I understood that WE ARE ALREADY THERE! The hebrew word “yashab” means to “sit, remain or dwell”. So those dwelling in the secret place are SEATED (clue #1). As believers, we have an incredible
promise in Ephesians 2:6 (NLT) “For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and
SEATED US WITH HIM in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”
(Clue #2) WOW! As believers in Jesus, we are seated with Jesus in this elusive “Secret Place”. Other translations call the “Secret place” the “Shelter”. This is a place of safety
(hebrew word “cether” meaning protection, hiding place or covering). Colossians 3:3 (NLT)
“For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.”
So if Jesus is your Lord & Savior, you are hidden in Him in the Secret Place, protected &
covered & as the rest of the verse says “abiding (resting) under the shadow of the Almighty”. To be in someone’s shadow is to be standing (or SEATED) very close to them. The One who created the world, the One who conquered death & sin, the One who loves you with an everlasting love casts His shadow over you, so who can dare come close!
I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel very safe!!!
Blessings
Leigh-Ann
